Montreal Diferent, No! Really??!!

Last weekend was bank holiday weekend here in Toronto. So we made plans to go to Montreal. This wasn't an adhoc decision, almost everyone we know has been ranting and raving about how beautiful it is down there, so i'm like aiight, we'll see.

We hopped on the VIA Rail train for a 4 hour journey, it didn't seem too long, especially since the trains have WiFi onboard (Wireless Internet Connection). I just thought, well probably get a seat with a table, i'll rest my laptop on it and my batery usually lasts over 3 hours, no probs. On the carriage i look around, no tables!! are u kidding me, my better half tells me your more likely to get tables on the first class carriages, ok, so i bite my lip and put it on my lap. After struggling a bit, i eventually get online. (On the return journey, i find out i was fortunate to get internet for free, because this time i have to pay for it if i want to access the internet....wacha tu, ntaangalia miti ikipita...hehehe)

Upon arriving in Montreal, i was very excited. The city had an European ambience about it. A mixture of English and French heritage entermingled in a palatable way. To me, everything about the city is different from Toronto, from the layout of the city, to the way the people dress, the cars they drive, the clothes they wear. It was like i was in a different contry alltogether. Even the mannequins on the shop windows were dressed more chicly.

The night seen reminded me of Newcastle for some reason. People were out to have fun, pure unadulterated fun, a bit like the geordies, but not to their scale, those of you who've been to Newcastle for new year celebrations know what i mean. It was refreshing to see drunks stumble their way across the pavements, stag parties screeming their lungs out and the likes.

They even have an African club called Goiree...i think.... right in the centre of town. Lingala music was on the menu as well, reminiscent of Club Afrique. I was pleasantly surprised, and yes Montreal is different, as it is beautifull. I took my camera, enjoy!

Aboard the VIA train, no tables in the comfort class folks, don't say i didn't warn u

An exquisite sunset welcomed us to Montreal, it's like they new i was on me way...

Niagara Falls

You know those feelings that you have sometimes that go kinda like...."it can't be all that". Thats what i was thinking when we were making our way to the Niagara falls . Being the type of person i am, i was gonna make the most of it anyways, boy was i wrong. Words can't explain the feeling you have when your under the Canadian Horse shoe falls.

Feelings of vulnerability, wonder, amazement, awe..mixed with a distinct realisation of my worthlessness as an individual in the greater picture, that is creation, left me dumbfounded. The sheer volume of the water falling and the power you feel eminating from the falls made me wonder for a split second how if Allah wanted he could take your life just like that.

Well then the split second came and went and i was back gasping with amazement, frantically snapping away at this wonder that seemed to have no ending, i mean where do you look? Will my pictures come out ok? Maybe i should just concentrate on committing all this to my memory which aint all that good...you know what...breath, take it in.. slowly....there is plenty of time dude....my inner voice helped calm me down.

The pictures i've taken do not do this experience any justice at all, nevertheless, they do say pictures speak louder than words. Enjoy.

It was a beautiful day in spring

I'll Never Walk Alone

When you walk through a storm, hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark.
At the end of the Storm there's a golden sky
And the sweet, silver song of a lark.
Walk on through the wind, walk on through the rain,
Though your dreams be tossed and blown.
Walk on, walk on with hope in your heart,
And you'll never walk alone.
You'll never walk alone.

Thats right!! Above are the lyrics to the song 'You'll never walk alone'. A song that was adopted by Liverpool FC in the early 60's to be the "club anthem". Now that we have once again, reached the final of the Champions League (a feat that Chelsea have yet to accomplish, even with their millions) twice in 3 years I might add, I think it's time for all you haters to agree that we are the greatest club in the history of the English League (18 League Cups won). I know the pessimists will say that is all history... you haven't won the League in ages...you were lucky in 2005..and all that. What you guys have to acknowledge is we're a good side for a small club, as Mourinho claimed...hehehe. He even said that Chelsea were the better side!!! What game was he watching?

I started supporting this club in 1984, when I was 7 years old, and they won the Champions League match against AS Roma on penalties. Bruce Grobbelaar causing a stir with his crazy legs antics. I still remember it clear as day. It was in Nairobi and we were watching the game in the living room - my dad, my brother, Ngabwe, and I. They are both Man U supporters so I had to be different. It was the first time I recall watching Liverpool play, (Talk about fate, first time I watch 'em play, they win the Champions League. The first time they won the Champions League was in 1977, the year I was born!! From then on it's been a rollercoaster ride of highs and lows and now were back on form, in Europe at least. With Rafa Benitez in charge, new owners in place and plans for a new stadium, things are looking pretty good.

Anyway, below are the milestones in the history of my beloved reds.
